Shelter Volunteer Finds Bucket Of Puppies

After a long shift at her local animal shelter the other day, volunteer Mary Nakiso was leaving the building when she discovered an unusual object just outside the door. A blue bucket she’d never seen before had suddenly appeared, and the contents inside instantly broke her heart.

“[T]iny, helpless puppies [were] dumped behind the shelter, up against the wall, inside a blue bucket,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, wrote on Facebook. “Little teeny, tiny babies. Left like trash.”

The puppies popped up to meet Nakiso’s gaze, standing on their hind legs but unable to jump over the edge. Nakiso had no idea who’d left the puppies or how long they’d been there, but she knew she needed to save them immediately.

You can see her discover the puppies here:

Without skipping a beat, Nakiso scooped up the babies and shuttled them to Camino Pet Hospital, where they received thorough medical exams. Sadly, the puppies quickly began showing signs of parvovirus, and one of them appeared to have a torn cornea.

The puppies, named Wonton and Beetles, were in a vulnerable state. But thankfully, they were in the perfect place to receive the care they needed.

“[T]hey’ll finally be safe, warm and cared for,” Hall wrote. “[S]weet little angels … everything’s going to be okay now.”

It’s been a few days since their rescue, and while the babies are still on the mend, they continue to improve each day. The tan puppy, Wonton, has been responding well to his parvovirus treatment and is feeling better than ever.

The black puppy, Beetles, is awaiting surgery to remove her damaged eye. But in the meantime, both babies are soaking up all the love they’re receiving at the vet clinic.
