Injured Cat Melts In Rescuer’s Arms As Soon As He Realizes He’s Finally Safe

Fiona Begg was on vacation with her family in Muskoka, Ontario, earlier this year, when a serene early morning walk suddenly turned into a desperate mission to save a life in peril.

It all started when Begg locked eyes with a gray cat on the side of the road, who instantly captured her heart. She continued walking, and seconds later heard “the most gut-wrenching sound.”

“He had been hit by a large truck and was … in the middle of the road while traffic kept coming,” Begg told The Dodo. “It was one of the most heartbreaking and traumatic sights I’ve ever seen.”

Without hesitation, Begg raced into the road, stopping traffic, and scooped the cat into her arms.

“At that point, I didn’t even know if he was alive, but I couldn’t let him be hit again or left alone in that pain,” Begg said.

Begg carefully held the cat to her chest, trying not to cause him any more pain. Despite his injuries, the cat seemed to know he was in safe hands.

“I was terrified he was so fragile, and I didn’t want to hurt him more,” Begg said. “But when I held him, he clung to my shoulder like he was holding on for dear life. That moment will never leave me. All I could think was, ‘If these are his last moments, he won’t spend them alone.’ I wanted him to feel love, to know he mattered.”

Begg’s heart pounded as she hurried up the road to the nearest vet clinic. By the time she got there, the crying and bleeding cat was holding onto her tighter than ever.

“They had to pry him off of me when I handed him over,” Begg said.

The veterinary team quickly began treating the cat, but expressed concern that he might not recover from his injuries. Begg left the clinic in tears, expecting never to see the cat again.

Until four days later, when she received a call with the most unexpected news: The cat had made it, and he now needed a home.

“When I got the call that he survived, it felt like nothing short of a miracle,” Begg said. “It was as if life had given him a second chance, and maybe given me one, too.”

Begg raced to the vet clinic again, this time to officially adopt her new cat, whom she named Lucky Chance. Begg had always seen herself as a dog person, but something about Lucky Chance felt special.

“Something in me knew instantly this boy was meant to be mine,” Begg said. “Since then, he’s become the most beautiful part of our life.”
