The African wild dog is known by many names, including Cape hunting dog or painted dog. Its scientific name, Lycaon pictus, means “painted wolf,” referring to the animal’s irregular, mottled coat, which features patches of red, black, brown, white, and yellow fur. They are known for chasing their prey to exhaustion and eating them alive.
It’s hard to tell when they’re pretending to flee to entice their prey to follow, and when they’re actually nervous. These guys look nervous, though, lol.
