What started as a moment of innocent curiosity on the open savanna turned into a full confrontation between an African crested porcupine and a troop of olive baboons. The troop swarmed. The porcupine stood its ground. And when one adult baboon reached into a rock crevice where the porcupine had taken cover, he found himself pinned — hand locked in the porcupine’s jaws while the rest of the troop desperately tried to pull him free.
Quills scattered across the plain. Baboons retreated one by one. And by the end, the porcupine walked away from all of them.
